I'm taking the colour classes from Margie right now and she recommended the book. So far, this is my favourite of all the colour books I found at the store. I tend to find colour wheel terminology mind-boggling at the best of times, but what I like about this book is that it has many clear illustrations and it uses lots of visuals to explain the terminology. The photos and accurate diagrams make the theory way easier to understand.
What is very cool is that the book applies colour theory to so many different craft media - it shows examples of how each idea applies to spinning, knitting, weaving, beading, quilting, painting, machine embroidery, and collage. For me, this made the book more useful than books that focus solely on colour theory, and more interesting than books with a narrow focus on a single medium.
I will turn to this book while I'm doing a variety of activities, from collage work to designing a quilt to picking paint colours for my bedroom. Even though it is so complete, the book is also very user friendly, and Deb Menz even walks the reader through a few of her colour choices at the end of the book so that we can see some examples of how choosing colours works.
I really like the design of the book too - it's attractive and tasteful, the removable colour charts seem really useful, and best of all it lays flat!!!
