Summer School

Register starting April 1 to make these classes part of your holiday plans.  Classes run from 9:00am - 4:00pm with one hour lunch, unless otherwise stated.  This is an opportunity for completion of the Earthly Goods Quilting by Degree Program in a short period, or, accumulate hours towards the Masters Program.

After June 15, 2009 you can register for these classes on an individual basis as listed in the write ups.

Quilting by Degree

Applique Basics, Machine Quilting, Quilt Binding, Foundation Paper Piecing, Hand Quilting and Quilt Labels, etc. make up this 6 day week class.

Primarily Patchwork/Quilt Construction

This hands on week includes Rotary Cutting Basics on the first morning and then on to piecing and construction for this intriguing sampler style quilt.  Expect to have you quilt basted by the end of the week. (Kit optional)

Ruth McDowell's "Piecing"

Using Ruth's book "Piecing Workshop" learn her unique piecing techniques which "virtually guarantees the ability to piece almost anything". By completing the excercises you will learn how to sew small pieces, straight lines, curves and inset patches while assembling a sampler wallhanging.  Then using you new piecing skills choose one of the two projects: Maple Leaf (straight- line) or Water Lily (curved). Attention will be given to applying these methods to your own designs.

Ruth McDowell Design Week

An introduction to the process of developing your own original pieced art quilt based on Ruth McDowell's "Design" book. Margo has been using this piecing method in her own work for the past 4 years and will use her knowledge to guide you through the design process.

Design Explorations      

Katie Pasquini Masopust's latest book is aimed at inspiring quilters to explore a variety of design ideas. This class will be filled with exercises to help you come up with new and exciting designs, techniques to strengthen your existing ideas, and design and quilt construction techniques to complete your own masterpieces.

Prerequisite: Quilting by Degree and a basic understanding of the elements of design.

Hollow Cubes              "NEW CLASS"

Uncover the mystery of the Hollow Cube.  Learn simple techniques to make this complex box easy and fun.  Apply light, medium and dark value techniques to your fabric.  This is a great technique to use your scrapes!

Surface Design

It's the same great format; 3 days of Surface Design followed by 2 days of sewing studio time.  Join Margie for a fun filled week of experimenting with colour on the surface of the fabric with bleach discharge, texture rubbings, painting on fabric and fusible web. What could be better than playing with colour on fabric and then cutting it up for a quilt?

Colouring with Thread

All of us enjoyed colouring as a child but now you can do it with thread.  You can use the coneflowers pattern from the book, draw your own or use flowers that Lois has used for this lovely wall hanging.  You will create the quilt top of 6" squares for the background and then simply fuse your flowers and colour with threads.

Colour Wheel Basics

Bring spring into your home with this great piece. This season brings an amazing variety of flowers. Tulips, daffodils, jonquils, gerber daisies and multi hued pansies brighten this garden. Although the quilt can be done as a wallhanging, we can also make it as a tablerunner like the sample in the store. The flowers are fused and then stitched. What fun we will have!

Stenciling              

Stencils provide a wonderful opportunity to repeat an image across a piece of fabric. Participants will design, cut and transfer their own stencil image to cloth using fabric paint and oil pastels. Rug Hooking

Rotary Cutting Basics


Safety, maintenance and handling of the rotary cutter and mat are required preparation for many classes. Using a special ruler, learn to measure and cut geometric shapes and strips quickly, accurately and safely with no marking templates. Master Quilter Classes

Required classes have been planned to expand on technical and design knowledge. These classes total 48 hours of instruction. They may be taken in any sequence. Master Quilters Program Optional Classes allow further development in areas of personal interest. These are marked with a and will total 52 hours of instruction. Upon completion of these classes, a certificate and an increase in the birthday bonus to 25% (personal use only) will be awarded. All of
these classes are also open to anyone not
taking the Master Quilter Program as long as
the prerequisites are met.
