Quilting for the Absolute Beginner

 

Easy as the ABC's - Hole in the Wall

Start your quilting journey with this class. It has
been designed especially for the beginner student
in mind that wants to give quilting a try. Kathy will
take you through the process from rotary cutting,
machine piecing, quilt construction, simple quilting and binding.

Arc- I- Textures

Join Kim for a fun-filled, creative class exploring
colour, value, texture, composition and decorative couching. Using the pattern and techniques by Carol Taylor in Skinny Quilts and Table Runners, you will create your own unique design, which will be suitable for a wall hanging (skinny wall quilt) or table runner. Assemble your piece with easy non-piecing collage work to create the background and combine decorative couching for fabulous results!

For quilters, traditional blocks are often a starting
point into the world of quilting. In this class, once
again, they act as our starting point from which
we will branch out. Expect to be challenged to
`think outside the block`as we take a look into
ways to create a contemporary spin on some
familiar "old friends".

Thread Play

Play with your sewing machine as you begin to
explore free motion stitching techniques. Drop
the feed dogs, adjust tensions and learn to use a
hoop as you start thread sketching and thread
painting. The complete Thread Play program is
done on a regular sewing machine with zigzag.
How do we stop puckers from happening? Which
products to use? Get all the answers to many
questions regarding stabilization of fabric with or
without a hoop. You will also learn how to make
lace as well as other creative stitches to enhance
the texture of your work. Use a variety of stitches
to add detail and interest to thread painted
motifs. Try feathering and shading, add details to
enhance appliqué fabric pictures. Learn tips and
tricks about tension adjustments to get the
results you desire including metallic threads and
many other specialty threads. We will explore the
possibilities of bobbin drawing and couching.

Master Quilter Classes

Required classes have been planned to expand on technical and design knowledge. These classes total 48 hours of instruction. They may be taken in any sequence. Master Quilters Program Optional Classes allow further development in areas of personal interest. These are marked with a and will total 52 hours of instruction. Upon completion of these classes, a certificate and an increase in the birthday bonus to 25% (personal use only) will be awarded. All of
these classes are also open to anyone not
taking the Master Quilter Program as long as
the prerequisites are met.

Heirloom Sampler Evenings      NEW CLASS

This class will be a great way to learn many new
techniques while creating a beautiful one of a kind quilt that will impress family and friends. At last you will have a wonderful opportunity to use the decorative stitches on your machine. You will learn how to sew with double, triple and wing needles.
Techniques will include lace shaping, faggoting,
fabric manipulation, puffing, circular sewing, making your own lace, pintucks, chain stitching, tea dying, etc. During the first month we will create a stitch dictionary which will make choosing the best decorative stitch or combination of decorative stitches. If you have old doilies, handkerchiefs, or linen this will be a good time to make a new home for them!

Lollypop Trees Block of the Month
Primer Class
                                  NEW CLASS

Start your Lollypop Tree Adventure with a one day
class. This class will provide you with the skills
and techniques to make your Lollypop Trees fun
and easy! Dazzle your friends, as this project
looks much more complex than it is! In class we
will cover pattern preparation, fabric choices and
three easy and popular methods of applique.
Students will be working on a mini quilt block,
suitable for framing.
Kits will be available to purchase for Lollypop Trees once a month. Two blocks each month.
